Cosplay and Covid: Video gamers defy the virus
ChinaJoy Proceeds Despite Pandemic
Asia’s largest video game event, ChinaJoy, went ahead in Shanghai despite the coronavirus pandemic. Around 150,000 gaming fans attended the four-day event in 2020. This was significantly fewer than the 380,000 visitors the previous year, but the show demonstrated resilience in the gaming industry during global restrictions.
Organisers implemented strict safety measures including face masks, temperature checks, facial recognition scans and digital health code verification for entry. The event combined physical attendance with extensive online streaming to reach a wider audience.
